Linux Identity

I have been asked how one goes about getting started with Linux.

In answer to that, I have to say that if you are starting with Linux because you want to code, then just jump in, concentrate on learning how the system works, learn BASH, and have fun.

But if you’re a normal person who is just curious about how it’s possible for a non-commercial, independently developed software can possibly drive your personal computer (hint: much the same way it can drive the internet) then the first step is research.

Researching anything on the internet can be a confusing, if not dangerous, venture. It so happens that I write about Linux in a great magazine called .

I’m biased, but for really useful and pretty coherent information on just settling in and using Linux software, this is a pretty good bet. You can order it online, or pick it up at your local bookstore or newstand.
