Christmas 2011

There were many “hi and bye” exchanges as Marilee and guide dog Geisha ran in one direction and I in another. Work, church, and civic activities keep our calendars full. Marilee riding horse named Balboa in the arena at Cat Hollow Farm.

We enjoy good health which facilitates our participation in the annual Ski For Light and Sports For Health events as well as Marilee’s horseback and trail riding lessons. This has become routine and for that we praise God.

Ed’s mother has Alzheimer’s Disease and was living in a nursing home in West Virginia. The facility fell victim to rising costs, fixed incomes of clients, and lagging state aid. It had to close. That closure necessitated a nearly “no notice” relocation to another facility in the state. We were notified by certified letter. A mere 10 days later the relocation took place. Finding a facility willing to take an 85 year old Alzheimer’s patient was a miracle. It was stressful but had a good outcome.

On a sad note, the family cat named Potato succumbed to cancer this past summer.

Potato sitting on the couch with a cat toy in the shape of a small sack of catnip. It is labeled "50 lbs. XXX" indicating high quality and maximum strength. The words attributed to Potato are: "Don't worry. I'm in a better place now. Look, I can haz more catnip."

He was a Russian Blue that found his way into the Kenlon family as a kitten. He was in his fourteenth year.  This is the tribute photo that was posted on several web sites. We received many condolences from friends a acquaintances. These little critters sure get under your skin and we miss them when they’re gone.

We were the proud parents in the audience during William’s master’s thesis presentation at Tufts University. It was so enjoyable to hear some of the tunes that filled our house while he was living with us so many years ago. His work was performed by solo instrumentalists, a jazz ensemble, and an orchestra. He also performed a voice solo and played vibes in the jazz ensemble.

His degree is in music composition and he is interested in teaching at the college level.

The other kids are doing well. Suffice it to say that their routines remain, uh, well, routine. (And happily so.) The paper copy of this Christmas letter contains sufficient detail that is not duplicated here.

However, this post contains material not found in the paper copy:  A photo of those “old” kids (also known as “parental units” to the young kids) touring the northeastern states on two wheels:

Ed & Marilee riding on a Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle. As they pass the camera, they smile and wave but Ed keeps his eyes on the road. Merry Christmas!
